Hundreds of miles clocked up by Hillingdon staff for rehab garden

Staff across the Trust have been putting their best foot forward to raise funds for the new rehabilitation garden at Hillingdon Hospital.

Work on the project, which is being overseen by the Hillingdon Hospitals Charity, has begun and planting is set to happen at the start of May.

Various activites have taken place to help fund the garden and this has included the 'March for March' campaign, encouraging local people and members of the Trust to cover at least a half marathon distance (13 miles) during the month.

Overall, more than 500 miles were completed by dedicated fundraisers and below are some of those who took part.

Alice Green, a highly specialist Neuro-rehabilitation Dietitian did not just do the required 13 miles but absolutely obliterated the target and completed a whopping 215 miles in what was a quite phenomenal effort.

Marissa Colyer, from the CT Scanning department, completed 19 miles in March, while inpatient physio and OT Aliz Felkar racked up a very respectable 25 miles.

Jane Burford from Outpatients Diabeticare completed 13 miles and Kirsty Farrell, our Emergency Department Clinical Service Manager and Trauma Service Lead, is a loyal supporter of the charity's projects and once again played her part in March.

Chief operating officer Tina Benson notched up more than 150 miles, which included 50km around Windsor as part of the Easter 50 Ultra Challenge which she did alongside site manager Allison Jakeman.

Will and Steve Wedgwood, Louise Wingfield and Sarah Austin were some of the others to take part in fundraising for the garden, which is being designed by world famous lanscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith.

Meanwhile, medals were awarded to the top three runners who covered the half marathon distance in the quickest time.

Michael Smith was top with a time of 1h 51m, Carina Casey came in a close second with a time of 1h 53m, while Andy Mulvihill was third fastest in 2h 04m.
