Jenny meets ‘dancing King’ at palace Commonwealth bash

The King with a group of guests including Jenny Jean-Jacques

Our colleague Jenny Jean-Jacques has met the King and Queen.

Jenny, above centre, in brown and white jacket, who is information governance manager for our Trust and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, was at St James’ Palace for a reception for guests from across the Commonwealth

She said: “It was a great start to Black History Month. I shook his hand and tried to curtsy!

“I had the privilege to be invited because of work I’ve been involved with in the community – I’m a committee member of the Caribbean Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association, was recently deputy chair for the NHS Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Midwifery Officer Black and Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group, Trustee for Sacred Heart Church in Ruislip and an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion.

“It was an evening to celebrate my cultural heritage and that of the other guests, too.

“My parents were born in Dominica, Sunny Island of the Caribbean, which is part of the Commonwealth and this was a night to celebrate that country.”

It was also a night for some fancy footwork: His Majesty gave an impromptu performance of Samoan dance with former rugby star Freddie Tuilagi, in images which have gone viral in the last week.

Jenny didn’t reveal if she tried a few dance moves but she did grab a picture with Strictly Come Dancing professional, Johannes Radebe.
