About the redevelopment of Hillingdon Hospital
Hillingdon Hospital is an old building with parts of the estate built in the 1940s as emergency wartime accommodation. It is no longer fit for purpose and must be redeveloped to ensure that we can continue to provide our patients with the best care possible.
Our vision is to provide a state-of-the-art hospital for the residents of Hillingdon, and beyond, which supports the very best in delivery of healthcare.
We are refreshing our designs and expect to share these in 2026.
The benefits of a new hospital
Our new hospital will bring a range of benefits including:
- A larger emergency department with co-located specialist services and diagnostics to improve flow and efficiency.
- New Midwife-led maternity unit next to the labour ward and purpose built inpatient areas for children and young people clustered by age group.
- More CT and MRI scanners enabling more people to be seen with shorter waits.
- Increased treatment facilities in outpatients means we can do more surgery as day cases, relieving pressure on our theatres and reducing waiting times.
- 100% inpatient single room provision to enhance privacy and dignity and provide infection prevention control benefits.
- A digitally enabled hospital that embraces emerging technologies and digital opportunities.
