About the redevelopment of Hillingdon Hospital
Hillingdon Hospital is an old building with parts of the estate built in the 1940s as emergency wartime accommodation. It is no longer fit for purpose and must be redeveloped to ensure that we can continue to provide our patients with the best care possible.
Our vision is to provide a state-of-the-art hospital for the residents of Hillingdon, and beyond, which supports the very best in delivery of healthcare.
We will have a digitally advanced hospital, with safety, security and technology at the heart of the design. We want our patients and staff to experience a digital hospital without boundaries - where provision of care is seamless and complete whether you are on or off our hospital grounds.
Our new hospital will bring a range of benefits including:
- A larger emergency department with co-located specialist services and diagnostics to improve flow and efficiency.
- New midwife-led unit as part of an integrated maternity service and a purpose-built inpatient area for children and young people clustered by age group.
- More CT and MRI scanners enabling more people to be seen with shorter waits.
- Increased treatment facilities in outpatients means we can do more surgery as day cases, relieving pressure on our theatres and reducing waiting times.
- 100% inpatient single rooms with natural light which enhance privacy and dignity and provide infection control benefits.
- Larger critical care unit which will be able to care for more patients.
