Diabetes in pregnancy

Diabetes in pregnancy, whether pre-existing (type 1 or type 2 diabetes) or gestational diabetes (GDM), requires careful monitoring and tailored management to ensure the health and safety of both the birthing person and the baby. Blood glucose levels that are too high can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and birth, but with the right support, these risks can be significantly reduced.

Our role

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Service plays a vital role in promoting, supporting and guiding birthing people through the management of their diabetes during pregnancy. We aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed choices and maintain optimal glucose control.

Our approach is person-centred and multidisciplinary, ensuring that treatment plans are individually tailored. Our focus is always on promoting safety, improving outcomes and providing compassionate, specialist care.
