Tuberculosis (TB) Service

We provide specialist testing, treatment, and prevention for Tuberculosis (TB). Our service is a partnership between Hillingdon Hospital specialists and community TB nurses, ensuring you are supported both in the clinic and at home.

How your care is delivered

We work as one team to manage your health across two settings. At Hillingdon Hospital, the service is led by Dr Mimi Haselden. Our hospital team focuses on your initial diagnosis and specialist medical management in the chest clinic.

In the community, specialist nurses from our neighbouring Trust, the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, provide care where you live. They can visit you at home, school, or college to support your treatment and follow-up.

Testing and screening

We offer a full range of diagnostic tools and preventative screening:

  • Diagnostic tests: skin tests, blood tests, chest X-rays and specialist biopsies.
  • Contact tracing: we test people who have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with active TB.
  • New entrant screening: for those arriving in the UK from countries with higher TB rates.
  • Pre-treatment screening: for patients starting medications that affect the immune system
  • BCG vaccination: targeted vaccinations for eligible adults and children.

Your treatment journey

TB is typically treated with a course of antibiotics lasting at least six months. We are here to make this journey easier by:

  • Regularly monitoring your progress
  • Helping you manage any medication side effects
  • Providing practical support to help you finish your course of medicine.
