LIQUID GOLD COLOSTRUM

Stimulate Oxytocin to make the milk flow with massage and gently rolling your nipples.
Make a “C” with your thumb and first finger.
Place them opposite each other about 2-3 cm from the base of your nipple.
Compress and release in a steady rhythm without sliding fingers along the skin.
Adjust your fingers forward or back a little if nothing comes.
Milk may take a few minutes to flow.
When flow subsides, rotate your fingers to a different part of your breast and repeat.

Ask to use a hospital grade double electric breast pump if you are struggling with hand expressing. Use the Initiate (Stimulation) Mode until expressing 20mls (in total from both breasts) continue to use this program until end of day 5 and change to Maintain Program. This will be more effective than a hand pump or a mini electric pump. This will reduce time spent pumping, double pumping (both breasts together) has been shown to increase milk.

Hand express colostrum into a syringe ASAP and take to the Neonatal Unit.
Continue to express colostrum into syringes (or use Initiate Mode) 8-10 times in every 24 hours for 48 hours including once at night.
Express using a double electric pump at the hospital and at home 8-10 times in every 24 hours including once at night. Complete Expressing Log. Always ask staff for help and support.
