Neonatal Department

Welcome to Neonatal Services. The service at Hillingdon Hospital is a local neonatal unit where we look after babies born prematurely or who have other difficulties after birth. We are part of the Northwest London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

We work closely with the other neonatal units in the region, and will often welcome back babies returning to our care from other neonatal intensive care units.

We work closely as a team, and family integrated care is at the centre of everything we do. We understand how important families are in the care for their baby and will always support families while they are on the unit.

If you think you may need our services you are welcome to organise a visit to the unit to learn more about what we do.

If you need to contact the unit, please call:

  • Intensive care on 01895 279447 or 279114
  • Special care on 01895 279109

Neonatal and Transitional Care Unit — our vision

We work hard to provide high-quality care and excellent outcomes for babies.

We do this through:

  • working in partnership with parents in line with Family Integrated Care principles
  • creating an inclusive and equitable environment for all babies, families, and staff from all background, beliefs, and circumstances
  • developing an expert, dedicated, multi-professional team by investing in staff development and fostering a compassionate, supportive culture.

Information for visitors

Parents are welcome to be with their baby at any time of day – there are no restrictions on when you can come.

Doctors' ward rounds are between 9am and 12 noon every day, so we encourage you to attend between these hours so that you can get medical updates regarding your baby. Parents will be asked to bring sound-isolating headphones to wear during ward rounds when other babies are being seen. This is to preserve the confidentiality of each baby’s care.

If you are not feeling well, with fever, cough or cold, it is best not to visit until you are feeling better. You can still get regular updates by calling the unit.

Our visiting policy can change throughout the year; in general we allow other visitors such as grandparents and siblings from 1-7pm. To maintain a quiet environment within the unit we allow a maximum of three people by the baby’s bedside. If you are unsure, please ask the bedside nurse about our visiting policy.
