Message on hearing health is loud and clear

To mark World Hearing Day, audiologists at Hillingdon Hospital set up an information stall in the restaurant.

They wanted to share vital information on hearing health and hearing loss with patients, visitors and staff at the hospital in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon. With atmospheric noise and environmental factors, a risk to good hearing, it is important to know the signs of hearing loss and act quickly.

On World Hearing Day, Monday 3 March, the message could not be clearer: if you experience gradual worsening of your hearing, make an appointment with your GP. They will assess you and if they need to refer you to a specialist you may be seen by an audiologist or perhaps an ear, nose and throat specialist.

However, sudden hearing loss or a rapid worsening of your hearing, needs urgent attention and you should call NHS 111 or seek an emergency GP appointment. A condition called Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss, for example, needs immediate attention.

Did you know you can get replacement batteries at any of the Hillingdon borough libraries, or from the pharmacy at Hillingdon Hospital?
