CARES Award for Communication Winner: Ashifa Trivedi

This award is for recognising the importance of listening and communicating in practice

Ashifa worked at Hillingdon for nearly seven years as our lead pharmacist for women and children, where she was responsible for providing a ward pharmacy service for those in neonates, paeditriacs and maternity.

"When I read the email [saying she had been nominated], I was just in shock," she said. "It wasn't something I expected at all. It was actually a really nice email to open up and read. I just felt very privileged to be nominated.

It was really nice that somebody has actually taken the time to do the nomination.

Roshnee Patel, who nominated Ashifa for the award, wrote: "She communicates well with everyone which ensures that tasks which need to be completed are done in a correct time frame. For example, a baby had been transferred from another hospital and the feeds they required were different to usual.

"Unfortunately, we did not stock this particular feed but she was effectively able to communicate with the doctors, nurses and dieticians on the ward to find a suitable formulation for the baby.

This was fed back to the Purchasing Team in Pharmacy and the feed was found and given to the baby in a timely manner.

Roshnee added: "Ashifa has a very positive attitude and is willing to help others all the time.

"On the wards she has taken the time to explain clinical choices to me, she gets me involved in clinical audits and her positive attitude has helped me to develop my confidence to do presentations to other teams like junior doctors."
