Celebrating National Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Day

Behind every operating theatre department door are a skilled group: Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) – and we have been celebrating their vital contribution to the work of our Trust.

On Tuesday 14 May, we celebrated National Operating Department Practitioner Day in the department  at Hillingdon, with colleagues from both our hospitals celebrating and recognising the vital role our ODPs play in patient care.

Our Trust has 18 qualified ODPs and three apprentices, working primarily in anaesthetics but who are also trained and qualified to work as scrub and recovery practitioners.

From preparing the operating room to assisting anaesthetists in intubation, airway maintenance and ensuring the patient’s wellbeing, ODPs are critically important members of the surgical team.
