Spreading the happiness

This year, on International Day of Happiness, we launched Hillingdon Hearts, a new online recognition scheme allowing our staff to give colleagues a simple token of gratitude or appreciation, in order to spread the happiness.

Using the platform, staff can now easily send a virtual heart, accompanied by a short message explaining why, to recognise some of the great work and friendly environment that we have at Hillingdon.

And our staff love it!

Since launch, Hillingdon Hearts has been influxed with messages and hearts between colleagues. The first month has seen over 10,000 views on the platform and around 2000 hearts sent. There were over 1000 hits on the first day alone.

Hits on our staff intranet went from 11,270 a day to 12,530 a day post launch, and the platform continues to be flooded with heartfelt thank you’s and well done’s.

Hillingdon Hearts is a staff platform, kindly funded by the Hillingdon Hospitals Charity, and is available from our intranet or staff app. It has quickly become an important part of everyday life at Hillingdon Hospitals.

Messages can be sent 24 hours a day so all staff can take part in the scheme. Even staff from other Trusts across the NW London sector can log in to send or receive hearts.

Also, as a token of thanks, staff who receive five hearts in a month are invited to a celebration breakfast with our Executive Team, where colleagues are joined by that month's CARES Awards winners and Long Service Awards.

We also have a place for patients, carers and visitors to give that extra special thank you for going above and beyond by sending appreciation and praise from our public website.

Alan McGlennan, our chief medical officer, said:

“Getting a Hillingdon Heart is something special, and spending the time to send a heart and write a kind message reminds us how much we are appreciated, and that the our work is important to others. We all love reading the messages coming flooding in!“
