Our Trust has been awarded £242,000 to install solar panels at Hillingdon Hospital.

We applied to a £100m fund held by The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to install solar power and battery storage solutions, to help drive down energy bills at the hospital in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, offering better value for the taxpayer.

More than 300 bids were made, totalling more than £382m, for solar and battery installations. To prioritise funding, a process to identify bids based on delivery confidence, cost and potential benefits was carried out.

Solar panel projects are expected to deliver savings of £75,000 per year to the Trust, and there are already large arrays of panels at Mount Vernon.

Investing in renewable and clean energy generation will deliver reductions in energy costs that can be redirected into front line care.

Chief Sustainability Officer at NHS England, Chris Gormley said: Thanks to the dedication of teams nationwide, the NHS has already implemented hundreds of projects that enhance energy efficiency and drive significant cost savings.

This ground-breaking new investment, across 78 NHS Trusts on around 200 sites, will expand solar power generation within the NHS by over 300%, slashing energy costs by hundreds of millions of pounds

“This ground-breaking new investment, across 78 NHS Trusts on around 200 sites, will expand solar power generation within the NHS by over 300%, slashing energy costs by hundreds of millions of pounds. These vital savings can be reinvested directly into frontline care, ensuring the NHS continues to deliver for our patients and communities.”
