Joanne the master apprentice scoops a top award

Fresh from completing a Team Leader apprenticeship, Joanne McSweeney has won a West London Business Award for her hard work and dedication during her training.

Deputy Facilities Officer Joanne, who works in the parking office at Hillingdon Hospital in Peld Heath Road, Uxbridge, scooped the Apprentice Of The Year Award in the 30+ category at the awards held at the Allianz Stadium on Friday 27 February.

The honour followed hard on the heels of our Trust's celebration of all our colleagues successfully completing apprenticeships, to mark National Apprenticeships Week last month.

Like many, Joanne made sacrifices and faced challenges during her apprenticeship, and these qualities impressed the judges at the West London Business Awards.

Balancing full-time work within the NHS and family life, she has continually demonstrated determination to learn and grow. Her commitment to completing the course and absorbing as much knowledge as possible reflects her genuine passion for self-improvement and excellence

In her winner's citation, they wrote: “Joanne has shown exceptional dedication to her personal and professional development throughout her apprenticeship. Balancing full-time work within the NHS and family life, she has continually demonstrated determination to learn and grow. Her commitment to completing the course and absorbing as much knowledge as possible reflects her genuine passion for self-improvement and excellence.

“She has embraced her apprenticeship as a life-changing opportunity to rebuild her career. Through determination and consistent effort, she has mastered new skills and adapted to the demands of her NHS role, becoming an invaluable team member who lightens the workload of others and enhances overall efficiency.

“Joanne has made a huge difference to introducing new systems. This has been rolled out by other departments which demonstrates her positive influence. A very respected and motivated individual, she has demonstrated deep resilience.”

Joanne said: “For me, it was nice being recognised for doing my apprenticeship at a later age and being able to manage your normal, everyday life as well as work and then studying as well, so it was really good to be recognised for that.”
