In January 2025, the Government confirmed that the redevelopment of Hillingdon Hospital would proceed as part of the New
Hospital Programme's Wave 1.
All hospitals in Wave 1 are expected to follow the programme's Hospital 2.0 approach which means that the new Hillingdon Hospital design has been updated.
The New Hospital Programme is a government initiative to rebuild, refurbish or replace NHS hospitals in England. Hillingdon Hospital is one of a small number of schemes selected to progress in Wave 1 and the only in London.
This wave includes hospitals that are expected to begin construction between 2025 and 2030.
We are refreshing our designs to comply with the New Hospital Programme's Hospital 2.0 national guidance.
This is a standardised blueprint that sets how key areas should be designed and laid out, including emergency care, inpatient wards, operating theatres, maternity services, diagnostics and outpatient facilities. It has been developed with input from more than 1,000 clinicians, Royal Colleges, healthcare staff and patients.
