Incredible staff celebrated at Parliamentary reception
Staff from Hillingdon Hospitals were praised at a special parliamentary reception for the significant improvements they have made across urgent and emergency care services.
The event, hosted by Danny Beales, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, brought together colleagues from across the urgent and emergency care pathway to thank them for their commitment to delivering the best care possible for the communities that they serve.
Over the past year, the Trust's urgent and emergency care services have become among the best-performing in the country.
Addressing staff, Danny Beales, said: "As the MP for the area where Hillingdon Hospital is based, I am incredibly grateful for everything you do and have done to improve performance and deliver outstanding care for local people.
"The work you have done has been recognised not just locally, but across London and nationally. What Hillingdon Hospital has achieved, and what you have achieved collectively, is truly remarkable.
"When I became MP two years ago, the Trust was in a very different place. Through your hard work, commitment and teamwork, you have driven significant improvements and moved the organisation forward in leaps and bounds. Those achievements are reflected in the progress that has been made and the recognition the Trust has received".
Alan McGlennan, managing director and chief medical officer, said: "I am really grateful for everything you have done to drive change across our Trust.
"What you have achieved has changed expectations. Patients now know what they can expect from us and have greater confidence in the care we provide. That trust is incredibly important.
"We are now consistently one of the highest-performing Trusts - we are one of the top performing in London and are in the top 10 percent nationally weekly.
"This is not just about performance metrics, it is about the quality and safety of the care we provide. We are seeing improvements across a range of measures, from patient flow and risk indicators to trauma outcomes. Most importantly, we are seeing evidence that patient care is getting better, with stronger outcomes and lower mortality rates."
Paula Wheatley, divisional director of nursing for unplanned care, said: "Everybody in this room has worked incredibly hard and, both individually and collectively, has made a real difference to patient safety and experience.
"Many colleagues who are not here today, including our ward teams, discharge teams, length of stay teams and community partners, have also contributed to our success and played a key part.
"On behalf of our division and the wider team, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this progress. In particular, I would like to recognise those who have gone above and beyond to improve discharges, strengthen processes and ensure patients can leave hospital safely when they are ready, allowing us to care for more people who need us".
