UK first as Hillingdon enrols to ENDURA2

Hillingdon Hospital is the first site within the UK to enrol a patient into the ENDURA2 study. Sponsored by the pharmaceutical giant GSK, this study reflects a growing collaboration with industry to bring innovative treatments to patients with respiratory conditions.

ENDURA2 is an international multi-centre Phase 3 respiratory study for adult participants with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It opened in April 2026 in the UK and is expected to run for two years.

This achievement represents an important milestone for respiratory research at our Trust and highlights the commitment of the local research and clinical teams, led by Dr Samantha Kon, to delivering high‑quality commercial trials. It also demonstrates the Trust's capability to support complex study set‑up and early recruitment, positioning Hillingdon as an active and reliable site for future research.

Dr Kon said: "Being the first site in the UK to recruit a patient to this respiratory study is a proud moment for Hillingdon Hospital. It demonstrates our commitment and ability to open and deliver commercial trials efficiently. This means we can offer our patients vital access to cutting-edge therapies not yet available to them, whilst actively helping to shape the future of respiratory care".

The local principal investigator is Dr Samantha Kon, Consultant Chest Physician. She is supported by Respiratory Lead Nurse Jenni Wenneberg, and Clinical Research Practitioner Er-Ane Ubebe in delivering the study with additional support from the wider research team.
